Our wonderful son Craig was a very fit and healthy Royal Marine who loved his job and playing rugby. The evening before his 28th birthday he collapsed and died of Cardiomyopathy whilst playing rugby for the Navy. To say we were devastated wouldn't come close to describing how we felt. We were told that it might have been possible to have saved Craig's life if a defibrillator had been available at the pitch. We decided to raise money by holding a Memorial Rugby Match in Glasgow between the Navy and Craig's home club, Glasgow Hawks. The Navy were hugely supportive and the proceeds from the match enabled us to buy 60 defibrillators which we have distributed to sporting venues throughout Scotland. Since the match many donations have been made to the Trust which we set up with the support of the BHF and the Scottish Ambulance Service. The Gift of Hope will ensure Craig's name will live on and hopefully prevent another family suffering such a devastating loss. Craig lived life to the full and had reached a point in his life when he was truly happy. His loss to us and all his many friends and colleagues can never be quantified.
