Doris Wilkie
Doris Wilkie was born in June 1923 in Greenwich. She worked most of her life including for the Ministry of Defence. Widowed in 1964 with her daughters Brenda and Gillian she was the first woman Woolwich Building Society ever gave a mortgage to. Mum to Brenda and Gillian, Nan to Joanne, Clare and Marc and Great Grandma to Beth, Terry and Jimmy.
Diagnosed with congenital heart valve problems at 80 she was an amazing strong lady. To her family she was the world - an truly caring, thoughtful and loving person. Everyone she met loved her and she was Nanny Doris to many of you.
Her death at 93 was quick and she wished us to remember her with donations to the BHF. Over the past 15 years she has kept up to date with research developments through Joanne's work.
Nanny Doris was real life fairy godmother who will be missed terribly and loved forever...
