Welcome to the Gift of Hope Heart Fund which we have set up in memory of Howard Wolfin, who died of coronary artery disease whilst playing football on 20 May 2008. He was 59. Howard was an irrepressible showman and prodigiously talented: a musician, a singer, a songwriter, a magician, a sportsman and a highly accomplished crossword addict and wordmeister. He had a razor sharp wit and could find humour anywhere and everywhere. He was a dedicated pillar of the Pinner community and loved helping others. Howard was perhaps best known for his quite extraordinary piano playing. But, above all, he was a devoted husband, dad, son and grandpa and adored by his family. Howard's death was totally unexpected - he was fit and healthy. He didn't smoke, he hardly drank, he wasn't overweight and regularly had his blood pressure, cholesterol and heart checked out. We learned after he died that, unbeknownst to any of us, his heart had been a ticking time bomb - a blockage occurred and he died instantly. We don't fully understand how this happened - we went to see a cardiologist, who told us that Howard was "unlucky" and that he could have seen him a few days before it happened and would not have been able to detect that anything was wrong. We now know that there is a great amount of research still to be done into this area of heart disease. By working with the British Heart Foundation, we are seeking, in Howard's name, to fund this research, so that this often silent and unexpected threat will be better understood and diagnosed in time to treat. It's too late for Howard - but we hope it won't be too late for countless others. If you would like to make a donation on this page to help us fund research into coronary artery disease, every penny will make a difference.......................................................................................THANK YOU The Wolfin family want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who came to the Gig for Howard on Sunday 13 December and for supporting us over the last few months since we launched this Fund. The gig was a real cathartic moment for us, a way of trying to draw a line under a really difficult eighteen months by doing something positive and fun to counteract all of the sadness and do some good - it was a very special evening for us and we really hope you all enjoyed being a part of it. If anyone has any photos and/or videos of the night, please let us know as we would really love to see them. We already have some fantastic photos, but the more the merrier. So, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of you who have donated to the Fund and everyone who contributed, be it financially or otherwise, big or small, in helping us to put on the gig and to raise so much money - we simply could not have done it without you. Thank you so much - Diana, Emma, Nikki, Andrew and Ben
