John Ellson

John brought joy and laughter to everyone he encountered. He filled the room with his presence. He was big, boisterous and humorous; and now the world is a quieter place.

John was a music manager and concert promoter who believed in the freedom of musicians to express themselves.

He entered the music profession by accident, but never looked back. He was at the inception of "Serious Productions" who brought Jazz music to the fore in London, and nationally. In the eighties he travelled the globe with major jazz artists. At one time he was a semi-permanent fixture at Ronnie Scotts club. He set up other companies which brought international artists to the UK and also toured them abroad. His latest project was "The Made in the UK" series in America and Canada. Hopefully this can continue.

He was responsible for helping many an aspiring musician to develop their careers.

Although the music business took up a big space in Johns' life he also had an abiding interest in politics, (leaning to the left), enjoyed ancient history, playing golf (badly!) and being on water. The latter resulted in having a couple of small boats on the Thames, but culminating in owning a gullet in Turkey where he and "chums" spent many happy holidays dipping into the sea, imbibing the local wines and investigating architectural ruins. Oh.... and of course his passion for improving his culinary skills. His lunches were the social hub of "the village".

Dear John we all love you and miss you
