Maurice Harold Kay
My dad was my hero.
He died at home in the early hours of 27th May 2017, shortly after spending a very pleasant evening with my wife and myself.
A very proud and upstanding man, who was a huge influence on my life and taught me possibly more than anyone else, he was very highly respected by all that knew him.
As a father, I could not have wished for a greater mentor and will always be grateful for the fantastic childhood and ongoing friendship we shared until his death.
As many who knew him will know, we lost my mum and brother too soon and we will always be in awe as to how my father coped with such great losses.
His grandsons Graham (my brother's son) and Charlie (my own son) were extremely important to him and he was extremely proud of the men they have grown to become.
Both my wife Claire and my brothers wife Jackie were also a big part of his life, as were our extended family and he will be greatly missed by all.
Sadly dad had suffered considerably with ill health for many years, but refused to give in to his problems and still enjoyed a regular flutter at the casino.
His friends from work, holidays and in particular the time he spent with Billie over the years made him very happy and my gratitude to all who knew him goes out to you all, for making his life so full. A special mention to all members of the over 50's club and the lunch club he belonged to, for whom I would offer my sincere thanks for the friendship you provided - please be aware he held you all in high esteem!
I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have known this man for as long as we had him with us and I am so grateful to the British Heart Foundation for their work, which I believe allowed us to have 28 additional years with dad, following his bypass surgery.
