Paul Hepworth

Paul's family have now decided to only hold a low-key family funeral, as Paul would not have wanted his final legacy to be his friends getting sick. We plan to hold a memorial next year, hopefully on 9th March 2021 which will be the one year anniversary of his passing. and so anyone who wishes to leave a message here to be seen by the family may do so.
Paul was an enthusiast about a great many things, all to do with his community. He spent his career in the railway industry and was an enthusiast for trains and train journeys. He was a keen cyclist and campaigned on cycling issues, and was highly active in the York Cycle Rally for many years.
He was a driving force at Poppleton Road Memorial Hall, including helping raise deal of money to rebuild and maintain the Hall for the community.
He was active in amateur dramatics, first as an actor and then taking backstage roles, assisting multiple groups with sound or lighting.
He volunteered at Holgate Windmill, which was only a few yards from his house. He volunteered to help at the National Railway Museum and Visit York.
He was a long-standing contributor to the letters pages of the York Press on the topics he loved, and later to the comments section under the name 'Pedalling Paul'.
Originally from Sheffield, he settled in York after some time in London and Cambridge. He passed away during a heart operation on 9th March, leaving behind his wife and two sons, and his family think that a donation to BHF in lieu of flowers would be an appropriate cause.
