Steve Young

Thank you for logging on to this Gift of Hope Heart Fund which has been set up in memory of Steve Young. Steve passed away on 23rd November 2006 through heart failure. Steve was a very fit, healthy man and keen cyclist whose life was tragically cut short. Through a series of ongoing fund raising events, we are hoping to raise enough money to assist in buying defibrillators to locate in the North West communities. Following heart failure, minutes are vital and it has been well documented that if a defibrillator is made available quickly then the chances of survival are increased by some 90%. Through a volunteer network in association with the British Heart Foundation, local towns and villages are now housing their own defibrillators and through being linked in to the emergency services are first on the scene in such an instance. Defibrillators are the size of a laptop and at around £1,200 can be sited in the local community for early response. Please help us save lives in the North West and join one of the fund raising events scheduled this year. The first organised event was the "Steve Young Life Cycle" on 24th June, 2007 at the Eagle & Child in Bispham, Mawdesley. This raised over £3,000 with 120 people completing a 6 mile sponsored walk and almost 80 cyclists braving the downpours on a 50 mile circuit. A BBQ followed and it was so successful we hope to repeat next year. Steve's colleagues & friends from Merseyside Police took part in 2 further cycles this year: Liverpool to Paris and UK 'Coast to Coast'. Both of these were in September and raised over £4,000 towards the fund. The Winter Ball held in Mawdesley on 2nd February has raised £1,250 to date with more still to come in. Total now over £14k - many thanks to everyone, this has gone a long way towards buying defibrillators for the local community and now being put in to locations in the North West. Another 'Coast to Coast' cycle in May 2008 and a 3 peaks challenge the same month raised further funds.LATEST UPDATE: Thanks for all those that attended the Winter Ball at Mawdesely on February 7th 2009, the evening raised over £1,000 towards the fund.Thank you and please help us through making an on-line donation.
