Veronica Brooke

Mum was born in a small village in Norfolk in 1947. Eldest daughter to Ernie and Hilda. Elder sister to Elayne and Adrian. She left Norfolk at the age of 15 to begin a career as a nanny, looking after children of families in wealthy parts of London.

In 1966, as England were winning a small football match she met a young PC doing his rounds. 2 years later, she married my dad, Ron, and remained married until she was taken from us.

In 1971, I was born, her only child after sadly miscarrying during my younger years. Mum, remained a stay at home mum for the majority of my youth, but started to work weekends at a local Pet shop to help the family income.

Her first “real” job was when I was about 10 years old, when she joined Marks & Spencer to earn some additional money for a family trip to Florida. She remained at Marks & Spencer for many years until she took voluntary severance.

For a couple of years, she enjoyed her other passion of travelling. Her adopted country was South Africa and she made many visits to Cape Town and made many many friends, people who today we now look upon as our second family. In fact only a few months before her passing she enjoyed a trip to Cape Town and was due to return in the Autumn. In fact it was during a trip to Cape Town in 1998 when her first grandchild, Daniel was born.
After enjoying her travels she found a new job working for a Doctors Surgery as a receptionist and remained there until she retired as a practice manager.
In 1999 Veronicas second grandchild was born, Katie. Veronica played an important part looking after the young grandchildren when we had to go to work, especially at weekends.
In 2004, Olivia, Veronicas youngest grandchild was born. People who knew Veronica all say how much she loved her grandchildren.

Veronica loved reading, she was for ever reading books and her love of crime thrillers has found its way into me. Plus I am sure that Olivias love of books is also in the genes.

On the 13th June, mum enjoyed a normal morning and went shopping with friends. Feeling unwell on her return she sat down in the front garden, when she experienced a massive cardiac arrest. Although friends and neighbours commenced CPR quickly and the paramedics arrived on the scene very quickly, sadly there was nothing they could do. We will always be grateful for their efforts.

The purpose of this charity page, is if you feel you can, please donate an amount so the BHF can carry on their important work. Together with their research and life saving skills we may one day reduce the number of people who experience heart problems.

Thank you for visiting my Gift of Hope fund.

The British Heart Foundation is leading the fight against heart disease and they rely upon their supporters to help them continue their vital and ground-breaking research. This special fund has been set up to raise money in support of their essential work. If you are a UK taxpayer you can add 25% to your donation at no extra cost to you by simply ticking the Gift Aid box when you donate.

Thank you again.
