Anthony Southwell
Anthony White Southwell, born 21/11/36 Surbiton Surrey. Father of 3 and grand father to 7. A sculpture and teacher. The only son of Arthur and Eva Southwell. Husband to Christine Hall.Anthony attended King School, Wimbledon and later The Kingston School of Art where he studied drawing and sculpture. Here he met his wife of 46 years, Christine Hall. They were married on 6/1/62, in St Marks, Surbiton, Surrey.He went on to study to become a teacher at The Goldsmith College, London. On 3/10/60 he began a three year course at The Royal Academy Schools specialising in sculpture.In 1962 Anthony was the Gold and Silver medallist for Sculpture at The Royal Academy of Arts.1n 1966 Anthony and Christine set up a studio in Aston, Henley on Thames. Where they produced pottery and sculpture.Through out his professional life he was commissioned to:Sculpt the head of Margaret Thatcher for the opening of Amersham College as well as sculptures for Henley Management College.Tony thoroughly enjoyed working with students of all ages who were passionate about their art.He was appointed the vice president of the Royal British Artists and exhibited their work at The Henley Festival and Mall Galleries. He contributed to his local area as a member of the parish council.As well as a 30 year career teaching with Amersham College he was an external moderator for Berkshire and Middlesex.Anthony was born with congenital heart disease. He fought throughout his life to over come this and over the last 20 years he underwent numerous heart operations and experimental forms of surgery.
